Fortress Parkhead MUST Return

The Champions League draw certainly captured the imagination of the Celtic support yesterday – two glamour ties versus Munich and PSG and an intriguing battle between ourselves and the Belgian champions Anderlecht has the mouth watering.

PSG are the big spenders of the group and will bring an unpopular Neymar back to Celtic Park where I’m sure he’ll receive a hot reception.

For Bayern, it will be their first visit to Celtic Park since 2003 where they played out a tense 0-0 draw with Celtic – Martin O’Neill’s side would head to the summit of the group that evening.

Funnily enough, Anderlecht was in the same group as Celtic and Bayern back in 2003, the parallels not stopping there as the group was finished by a French side – Lyon.

Anderlecht came to Celtic park and were sent packing 3-1 on the night and to give a glimpse of the team they come up against just look at it below.

Celtic: Hedman, Varga, Balde, McNamara, Agathe, Miller, Lennon, Sutton, Petrov, Hartson, Larsson. Subs: Douglas, Gray, Sylla, Maloney, Wallace, Mjallby, Kennedy.

Of course, we all know that Celtic’s away record against these teams didn’t live up to our home advantage.

Something Brendan Rodgers is going to have to bring back if Celtic are to do any real damage in the competition this year. The goal is European football after Christmas, and that is certainly achievable, but not without hard work.

Making Celtic Park a fortress again, it’s flattering when you hear Euro’s elite past, and present speak about how great our fans are, but we must look beyond this – so when these groups of players come to Celtic Park, they are so overawed their gameplan goes out the window.

We saw a glimpse of this with Man City last year, between the fans and the players – a significant result is right around the corner.
