James Forrest is a modern-day Celtic legend. The 32-year-old has played over 450 times for the Hoops and registered over 200 goal contributions in the process. At the club his whole life, Forrest has never thought about departing but he has admitted that last season was a tough one for him personally.
In the league, the attacker started just five times. Albeit he did seem to contribute when he played, Forrest never gained consistent minutes. He said (Sky Sports): “I think the majority of my career at Celtic I’ve always played but it’s always been difficult. With a club like Celtic you’re always signing international players, top quality players. I think it’s hard but at the same time it’s good.”

Despite limited game time last season, the Scotland international is still keen to be at the club for 2023/24 under Brendan Rodgers, a manager he had great success with previously. Forrest said: “Every year since I’ve been here I’ve always been winning leagues and cups and playing in Europe, it’s been unbelievable. I’m just going to keep working hard to still be a part of this team.”
Although his output on the pitch has declined somewhat of late, what Forrest brings off it is invaluable. He is an experienced head in a rather youthful dressing room and he will always offer youngsters advice and teach new players all about the football club. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the joint third most decorated player in Celtic’s history see out his career at the club with his current deal having two years left on his current deal.
