‘I said No’ – Defender Claims Celtic Snub

During the summer transfer window, it was evident to see that Ange Postecoglou was targeting another right-back to introduce to his new-look Celtic squad.

Similar to the majority of transfer windows, the Hoops were linked to a whole host of transfer options. Ultimately though, Postecoglou ended up completing a move for Legia Warsaw’s Josip Juranovic.

One player who was heavily mentioned as a possible target for the club was Rennes right-back Sacha Boey, who ended up moving to Turkey to join Galatasaray.

However, as quoted by the Daily Record, it appears that the 21-year old full-back was close to moving to Parkhead, with it coming down to a ‘straight choice’ between the Hoops or the Turkish side.

“In the summer, I had a straight choice between Celtic and Galatasaray.

“The previous season, I had played against Celtic (in Europa League) and got noticed; it was a great stadium and a fantastic atmosphere.

“I liked Celtic, but I said no.”

Despite the supporters concerns in the summer, the right-back position has actually become one of our strongest on the pitch, thanks to the addition of Juranovic but also the incredible form of Anthony Ralston.

It would have been interesting to see, had Boey joined the club earlier in the summer, what it might have done to Ralston’s chances in the side.

Ultimately, I am sure most fans would agree that we are happy with the options in that area of the field for the time being and have served us well so far this campaign.
