Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey has given his take on a possible red card incident on Ismaila Soro in the game against Motherwell on Saturday.
In a flashpoint towards the end of the game, ‘Well striker Devante Cole looked as though he may have had a kick out at the Celtic midfielder who retrieved the ball on the near touchline.
Speaking to This is Football the ex EPL official believes that despite getting a caution for the tackle that it was a ‘clear red card’.
“For me, I think it’s an absolute clear red card. I think the assistant is right there as well. Kicking or attempting to kick an opponent is an act of violent conduct and Celtic were spot on, it was a red card offence for violent conduct.
“It’ll be interesting to see in the coming days what happens with the Motherwell player.”
At the time the incident looked like it went a little unnoticed in a way with the referee quick to brandish the yellow card.
As Halsey says it will be interesting to see what happens in regards to the challenge and if any action can be taken, depending on if the referee says he has seen it properly.
Cole has some history when it comes to dangerous tackles on Hoops players with a poor tackle on former Celt Jeremie Frimpong a few months back. It’s probably just chance that it is the same player, as he might not be the malicious type but it isn’t the first time it has happened.
