Neil McCann’s Ange Postecoglou Concession

Former Rangers star and pundit Neil McCann has admitted that he can’t see Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou leaving the club any time soon.

His comments come after a week of further speculation about Postecoglou’s future following Leeds United’s sacking of Jesse Marsch.

A further Premier League job at Southampton has once again became available but strangely enough elsewhere the Celtic manager isn’t getting linked with a switch to Partick Thistle or Motherwell who also parted ways with their managers.

It’s becoming increasingly tiresome but in a week where Ally McCoist was offering to drive Postecoglou to Elland Road it was surprising to see that one of the most sensible voices on the situation was Neil McCann.

He has never been the flavour of the month with the Celtic support meaning that it’s always a bit of a surprise when he talks sense as he admitted that there’s no way Postecoglou will walk out a job midway through a season.

The turnaround under the former Socceroos boss has been phenomenal as he is continuing to build a side which he wants to be able to compete in Champions League football.

As Brendan Rodgers did it before some may be anxious but both characters couldn’t be any more different from each other.

“I don’t think it will happen now. Ange never gives anything away and he never gives any oxygen to the fire either. He just kills the questions off very quickly because he’s just there to do a job for Celtic,” said McCann speaking on [Sportscene].

“You can clearly see he’s got a lot of passion for the club. I would be very surprised if he walked out, even for such a great job at Leeds. I’d be surprised to see Ange walk out on a job that’s half done.

“There’s nothing won yet. He’s got the League Cup final, he’s into the quarter-finals of the Scottish and they’ve got a comfortable lead in the Premiership. I don’t think he’ll be rushing away, I don’t see him as that type of guy.

“Unless they come with a truck full of money for him and offer him something he wants in terms of football (incentives), because I don’t think he’s driven by money. It would have to be a football thing. Everybody else would like to see him disappear because he’s doing such a good job. But I can’t see him doing it.”

This season could turn out to be a memorable one for the Hoops and he will be keen to be a part of that.
