Former Hoops Hero Released By Current Club

English League 2 side Newport County has released former Celtic midfielder Joe Ledley.

The Welshman joined the promotion chasers back in March, featuring just four times, before remaining on the bench.

County reached the play-off finals but was defeated 1-0 by Morcombe at Wembley Stadium.

Confirming on the club’s official website, the League 2 side have decided to part ways with the central midfielder.

Ledley was a bit of a fan favourite to some during his spell at Celtic Park in Neil Lennon’s first spell as manager of the club, featuring over 150 times for the Hoops and scoring 30 goals.

The two men struck up a good working relationship. The 34-year old midfielder revealed recently that he was closer to returning to the club, purely on a training ground basis to regain his fitness.

However, that request was denied by the club at the time.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the midfielder at the age of 34.

One thing is for sure; he will have a busy summer ahead as part of ITV’s Euro 2020 coverage alongside other former Celts such as Scott Brown and John Hartson.
