Celtic’s rebuild will get underway shortly, and the signing of Liam Shaw is the first sign the club are looking to the future.

However, reports suggest they could delve back into the past to strengthen their squad this summer.

According to multiple reports including HITC, Scotland penalty hero, David Marshall is more than open to a Celtic Park return.

The former Hoops academy player left when Gordon Strachan was the manager when it was clear Artur Boruc was going to be Celtic’s number one.

Marshall is about to turn 36 in early March but will certainly be among the players heading to this year’s Euros. While he might not be a longterm fix for the club, he could offer short term respite form our goalkeeping woes until Celtic find a younger keeper with more longevity.

The former hoops shot-stopper is currently under contract at Derby County and has over a year left on his deal at the moment, some sort of fee would have to be agreed between the two clubs if it was to happen.

It begs the question, if Celtic are looking at players like Marshall, is Neil Lennon here for the long haul?
