Former Celtic Star Lifts Lid on Managerial Ambitions

Former Celtic star Charlie Mulgrew has lifted the lid on his managerial ambitions and admitted that one day, he wants to lead a team from the dugout.

After retiring last year, the 38-year-old has picked up his UEFA A License and paid visits to the likes of Roberto de Zerbi at Brighton, Russell Martin at Southampton, and Brendan Rodgers at the Hoops to see how they all work.

Still young in managerial terms, Mulgrew has looked to take his first steps into a job with Celtic under-18s and after having an interview, he is waiting to hear back from the club.

A key leader in the dressing room when he played, Mulgrew’s credentials to become a coach and eventual manager are coherent, but he did admit that he has a lot of learning to do.

“I want to be a manager, I want to be a coach”, the five-time Scottish Premiership title winner told CeltsAreHere.

“I’ve got really strong ideas on the game, I’ve got a lot of learning to do and a lot of understanding of what that entails.

“As much as I think I do know, I’m not daft enough to think I know all or I’m ready to go right now.

“I’ve got a lot of learning to do and I think I can do that at Celtic or wherever that may be.”

If Mulgrew does end up getting the U18s job, monitoring their progress and style of play next season should be intriguing.
