Since taking over at Aberdeen, ex-Celtic midfielder Barry Robson has steadied what was a rocking ship. The 44 year old initially took interim charge at Pittodrie alongside Steve Agnew back at the end of January and out of the six games he’s managed so far, the Dons have won four.
Other than a 3-1 defeat to St. Mirren (a game in which the Dons went down to seven minutes in) and a 4-0 loss at Celtic Park where Reo Hatate was masterful, Aberdeen have a 100% record under Robson’s stewardship with the Scot having masterminded victories over Motherwell, Livingston, Dundee United and Hearts. He has solidified the Aberdeen side as a whole and as a result of his eye-catching spell in the hot seat at Pittodrie, Robson has today been given the job until the end of the season.
Speaking to official Aberdeen club media following his appointment, Robson said:
“Both Steve and i are delighted and honoured to be asked by the board to continue in our current roles and to demonstrate our ability to lead the club in the longer term”
The 44 year old will certainly be looking to remain in charge of Aberdeen in the long term and it was a double delight for Robson this afternoon because as well as his appointment, he was also awarded Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month for March.
As ever, it is nice to see an ex-Celt achieving elsewhere and rather ironically, Robson’s first goal and touch for the Hoops came against Aberdeen. He is fondly remembered by Celtic fans, all of which will be backing Robson to continue to succeed in the Granite city, as long as it is not against his former club.
