Doherty, a highly regarded Scottish scout, spent five years at Celtic from 2017 to 2022, where he was responsible for scouting both UK and international talent.

After leaving Celtic, Doherty moved to Serie A, joining Atalanta in November 2023 as their senior UK scout, further expanding his scouting experience.
The two men have a history together, having worked side by side during the 2016/17 season at Sunderland, where Doherty held the position of Head of Recruitment.
Moyes, who enjoyed a spell as a player at Celtic between 1980 and 1983, made his return to Everton earlier this season after the departure of Sean Dyche.

Everton are already safe from relegation, which will allow them to focus on strengthening their squad for the next season.
With Doherty now back at the club, he is set to play a huge role in the recruitment process, helping Moyes identify the right players to push the team further up the table and build for a successful future.
