Former Celtic Prodigy Set for Scotland Call Up and James Forrest’s Chances Addressed

Steve Clarke is reportedly set to call up young Liverpool winger Ben Doak to the Scotland squad for the Euros in Germany this summer.

The Scotland gaffer is also said to be considering the chances of experienced Celtic winger James Forrest, according to SunSport.

Amidst a backdrop of injury woes, Clarke is poised to leverage the expanded squad options permitted by UEFA, allowing teams to select up to 26 players instead of the standard 23.

The move to potentially include Doak comes as the promising winger nears full fitness after a knee injury that sidelined him since December.

Doak’s addition would provide a different option in Scotland’s offensive option. However, the 18-year-old’s selection hinges on his recovery. It would be his first call up to the senior team.

James Forrest, on the other hand, brings a wealth of experience and a timely return to form. Despite concerns over his Celtic career and a lack of recent national team appearances—his last cap came at Euro 2020—Forrest has demonstrated his enduring value. Scoring twice against Dundee and participating in consecutive league matches for the first time since early 2022, Forrest’s resurgence under Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has reignited calls for his international recall.
