Former Celtic Pair Link Up After Overnight MLS Thriller

Former Celtic duo Giorgos Giakoumakis and Liel Abada linked up last night after the latter’s Charlotte FC defeated Atlanta United 3-2 in an MLS thriller.

Abada bagged a second-half brace and was eventually named man of the match as he helped sink Giakoumakis’ team.

The pair played together in Glasgow for around 18 months. They were both signed by Ange Postecoglou but the Greek striker left midway through the Aussie’s second season in charge.

Young Abada departed a year later but last night, they were reunited. Indeed, post-match, the winger posted a snap of them exchanging shirts on his Instagram story:

How each of these attacking players left Celtic was unique. Clubs weren’t falling over their feet to sign Giakoumakis or Abada but due to different circumstances, they both wanted out.

Celtic have moved on but it is pleasing to see the duo meet up once again. Their time at the Hoops would have undoubtedly come up in conversation.
