Former Celtic left-back Alexandro Bernabei continues to impress in Brazil, playing a big part in Internacional’s 3–0 win over Atlético Nacional in the Copa Libertadores — and adding to the struggles of a familiar face, ex-Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

Most Celtic fans rightly felt Bernabei didn’t quite live up to the hype at the Hoops. He arrived with some buzz but couldn’t find consistent form or regular minutes, playing only 28 times over two seasons. He had some good moments, but never fully claimed the left-back role, usually sitting behind Greg Taylor in the starting XI.
He helped them win the Campeonato Gaúcho and is now an important player for the team in Brazil.
Bernabei helped Internacional beat Atlético Nacional in the Copa Libertadores. He kept Alfredo Morelos quiet all night – the same Morelos Celtic fans know well. The Colombian striker hasn’t scored in seven games now. Bernabei defended well, got forward when needed, and clearly got the better of his old Rangers rival.

Bernabei’s turnaround in Brazil might make some wonder what could’ve happened if things clicked in Scotland, but it’s clear he’s now playing in a system that fits him well – one that lets him attack and roam freely down the left as an attacking full-back.
While his time in Glasgow didn’t go as planned, Bernabei is proving that he’s more than capable at a high level.
He has gone from barely playing at Celtic to standing out in Brazil, and it’s a comeback Celtic fans can quietly enjoy from a distance.
