The initial Eddie Howe to Celtic buzz when the strong rumours started to surface about his potential appointment has now been replaced by a flatness among the support.
Celtic like to drag things on and fans are rightly asking what’s going on. But they’re not the only people wondering what exactly is holding any deal up.
Alan Stubbs believes Celtic have put themselves in a precarious position due to the public nature of their interest in Howe.
The former Celtic defender revealed Howe is holding all the aces while Celtic have put all their eggs in one basket.
Should the deal not come off, Stubbs thinks it leaves Celtic and any other manager coming in with a bit of egg on their face.
“Eddie Howe’s in a really strong position because he’s holding all the aces” Stubbs told the Huddle Podcast.
“From Celtic’s point of view, it looks like they’ve put all their eggs in one basket
“If I was Dominic McKay or Dermot Desmond, I’d be quite nervous right now.
“Obviously, it’s out there in the public that Eddie Howe is their number one choice and if this doesn’t happen then the next person who comes in, the first question will be ‘How do you feel that you weren’t number one choice?'”
Given Celtic are three months away from their first game of next season, time is of the essence. While we want the right man in charge, we really can’t afford to go much longer without knowing what comes next.
Season ticket renewals will be affected the longer this drags on. The club is now in a position to get renewals out after the SPFL and Sky Sports came to another arrangement on streaming for next season.
What they can’t do is let this saga go on longer and put out renewals with a John Kennedy letter for supporters.
