Former Celtic Hero Retires: Takes Up New Role

It was hinted that former Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre had retired from professional football but it has now been confirmed as he has been appointed to the role of new sports director at Olancho FC [Daily Record].

The 36-year old was released at the end of the season by Marathon after a knee operation with the former Honduras internationalist deciding to call time on his playing career.

During the time spent out due to injury, Emilio studied sports management in order to take his next step in the game which appears to have paid off.

The experience Emilio had in Glasgow was phenomenal and something that may influence any future appointments.

He played at the very highest level for the Hoops in the Champions League and won a total of 12 major honours during his time in Glasgow.

It’s a disappointing way for his career to have ended with the former Hoops fullback causing some controversy in his homeland when he moved from Motagua to bitter rivals Marathon.

Having had two separate spells at Celtic, whenever you mention his name majority of Celtic supporters will smile. His character was infectious and he was loved by many during his time in Glasgow.

Everyone at Celts Are Here wishes Emilio all the very best for the future!
