Former Celtic Defender Sacked Down South

Looking back on it now, it still seems pretty crazy Steven Pressley was signed by Gordon Strachan when he was nearing the end of his playing career. The former Hearts icon had left the club and Celtic came calling – he wasn’t going to turn it down.

To be fair, the player was never in a position to become a fan favourite but you can file him under ‘did a job’ during his Celtic run which consisted of 21 appearances resulting in a League title and Scottish Cup double.

He has since gone into management and it’s not gone well at all.

Pressley was sacked from his job as Carlisle manager this week with the club languishing 19th in the League two table.

Since 2010, the Scot has managed Falkirk, Coventry City, Fleetwood Town, Pafos and the aforementioned Carlisle.

Could he come back up to Scotland and take the Hearts job? He is a legend at Tynecastle.
