FORMER CELTIC and Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has admitted he would sign disgraced Premier League footballer Adam Johnson after the player was released from prison.
Johnson, who was found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a 15-year-old was sentenced to six years in jail.
Now he’s out of prison, the debate is raging on whether football clubs would sign the disgraced former Man City man but Gordon Strachan said he’d be all for signing Johnson if the player has shown genuine remorse for his actions.
“I would if he’s shown genuine remorse. Then I’d say, ‘right, let’s get on with it’.” Strachan told SunSport.
“I would because I go back to what I believe in, that everybody deserves a second chance – and he’s done his bit.
“What if we don’t allow him back in the game and his family are affected? His kids? We’ve got to think about that.
“You cannot destroy his family and himself just because of what he did. He’s done his three years.
“We must forgive. I generally think we forgive most people if they show remorse.”
Strachan will be in the minority when it comes to Johnson returning to the game but we have seen in the past with Ched Evans that clubs will overlook serious crimes in certain instances.
