Sam Wardrop, a former Celtic defender who began his career with the Glasgow giants and captained the Under-20s to a Scottish Youth Cup final victory in 2017, has made a triumphant return to professional football after being forced into early retirement due to injuries.

Wardrop’s initial foray into professional football saw him move on loan to Dumbarton in the Scottish Championship in August 2017, before signing a two-year contract with Dundee United in May 2018. He headed back to Dunbarton and then to Airdrie before, unfortunately, his career was derailed by injuries, leading him to step away from the game 786 days ago.
Determined to reignite his career, Wardrop embarked on a 365-day challenge to return to professional football outside the UK. After just 120 days into his challenge, he has successfully signed a short-term deal with Ljungskile SK, a club competing in the Swedish third tier.
