Former Celt Doesn’t Have a Clue; Lennoxtown Rant

FRANK McAvennie seems to be on a crusade of criticism when it comes to Celtic this weekend. I wonder who has rattled his cage.

The former Celtic striker has had a go at the first team players and now, for absolutely no reason, he’s having a go at the younger players who I guarantee he’s not seen much of.

Frank says Celtic’s crop of youngsters right now aren’t good enough with absolutely nothing to back this up.

The former player is less of a pundit and more that guy down the pub who gives you the most outlandish takes on things he knows very little about.

There is talent underneath the first team, there’s no doubt about that. However, the big problem is not so much the players but the system they currently find themselves in.

No competitive games and just training week by week with no real shot at the first team because the manager hasn’t seen them play in competitive fixtures, it’s a vicious circle.

We have guys like Lee O’Connor who Manchester Utd fans were gutted to see go, he’s already been capped by Ireland and is held in high regard within that setup.

Luca Connell who was getting first team football early days at Bolton. Leo Hjelde who is doing well for Ross County in the league. The list goes on, But hold the bus, Frank doesn’t think these youngsters are worth anything.

“I don’t think they’re good enough” Frank told Football Insider.

“Some of them are going on loan and they’re doing well and scoring goals but the reality is when you’re at Celtic you have to be better than everyone else.

“A lot of players will do well at other clubs but not quite do it at Celtic, some players can’t handle that step up.

“I’ve seen good players coming up through the ranks but they just can’t take that step, then they go away and do it at other clubs.

“Celtic is a big, powerful animal, a big machine and it takes a certain kind of player to be able to handle all of that.”

If you look at his comments, they are as generic and undescriptive as they come.

I’m not saying all the guys currently in the youth system are good enough to make it but they have to be given a fighting chance and they deserve better than Frank’s comments.

Idiotic takes like this do nothing and only serve to line McAvennie’s pockets. Is he creeping up on the likes of Walker and Nicholas?
