On Tuesday night, Celtic loanee Lee O’Connor reached the Papa John Cup final as Tranmere Rovers provided a shock result defeating Oxford United 2-0.
Their opponents for the final were revealed last night with Sunderland coming out on top against Lincoln City to reach the final.
This sets up a date at Wembley for O’Connor and Tranmere who will take on the League 1 side on Sunday the 14th of March.
The Irishman played a key part in Rovers reaching the cup final, in particular in the latter stages of the competition.
Funnily enough, though it wasn’t in the position that many may have expected with O’Connor rocking up in the central defensive midfield position and putting in two good performances in the last two rounds there.
It is unclear at this moment what the future holds for the 20-year old at Celtic but one impressive thing is his versatility with the ability to play right across the backline and also in the midfield. That could be something a new manager is interested in taking a look at and utilising come next season.
