Feyenoord Faces Hefty Fines Following Uefa Charges After Celtic Clash

Feyenoord has been hit hard in the pocket after their Champions League encounter with Celtic, receiving three separate fines totalling £45,000 from European football’s governing body, Uefa. [UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body]

The Dutch club faced stiff penalties following a series of incidents during the match at De Kuip, where they secured a 2-0 victory over Brendan Rodgers’ side.

One of the most serious offences noted by Uefa was the display of a banner reading ‘UEFA MAFIA,’ which the organisation deemed to be ‘provocative’ and ‘of an offensive nature.’ This banner alone resulted in a £15,000 fine for Feyenoord.

Additionally, the club was fined £7,500 for the use of pyrotechnics during the match, and a further £22,500 for blocked access passages and stairs within the stadium, ensuring the safety of spectators was compromised.

Feyenoord officials are currently considering whether to appeal these fines, which have put a significant dent in the club’s finances.

On the other side, Celtic also faced repercussions from Uefa due to the actions of their travelling supporters, who let off flares and fireworks inside the stadium. The Scottish champions were hit with a fine of £20,250.

This was one of the factors that led to the club banning the Green Brigade from the next few away matches.
