Expert Lists Reasons for Latest Celtic Injury

Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis has told Football Insider has claimed Josip Juranovic sustaining an injury at Celtic Park could have been down to playing at left back.

The right back was asked to play on the opposite side for Celtic against Dundee Utd but picked up an injury in the first half.

“There are different ways of thinking, different patterns of movement at left-back.

“When you’re playing on your natural side, a lot of these things come without a second thought. It’s different when you’re on the opposite side.

“He has also played a lot football. He played three games back-to-back for Croatia at the Euros.

“Celtic have also been playing a lot of games in quick succession, which will have an impact.

“He played 90 minutes against Ross County, then he played another match in the Europa, then in the league again.

“I think he did get a slight rest in the League Cup but he has still played a lot of minutes.

“He also hasn’t been in Scotland very long. So there are a few influential factors with regards to injury risk, particularly with the hamstring.”

There is going to be a number of factors behind any injury. Juranovic is a right back and might not have succumbed to the first half set back otherwise.

It speaks to Celtic’s lack of depth – although Ange has both Liam Scales and Adam Montogomery to play at left back but opted for Josip.

Adam probably had his worst game for Celtic when he did come on for the Croatian.

Celtic’s injuries have piled up over the past two months and we’re really struggling to friend a competent enough team.

There’s a lot of soft tissue injuries happening – something that’s plagued Celtic before Ange got here. We have a Anton McElhone on the ball as our new head of Sports science. It’s about time we get to the bottom of things

Hopefully injuries will ease off in the next few weeks. If we have to go the whole of October with what we have right now, we’re going to be well beyond the title.
