Erik Sviatchenko has spoken to CeltsAreHere.com about the Glasgow Derby on Sunday. The former Hoops defender arrived in the January transfer window in 2016 and played in five derby matches.
After arriving in 2016, he scored the equalising goal in his first derby match, but the cup game saw Celtic eliminated after penalties.
Erik started Celtic’s 5-1 game at home, famous for Moussa Dembele’s hat-trick.
The Danish defender told CeltsAreHere he will be tuned in tomorrow for the game and believes Celtic are more than capable of grabbing the win:
‘I will be watching tomorrow for sure’ he continued. ‘I believe getting the three points is possible – it would be a massive win in pushing for the league title’
The defender was linked to a move back to Celtic in the summer. CeltsAreHere understands that agents were talking; however, the deal didn’t come to much in the end with the manager keen to pick his own players.
Erik was signed in Ronny Deila’s last season at Celtic. After the Embarrassment in the Scottish Cup, Ronny walked away, and the board turned to former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers to lead the team.
The Northern Irish manager came in and changed things at Celtic. In the 2016/17 season, he led his invincible team to a treble with Erik playing a lot during the first half of that season.
However, the Dane fell out of favour with Rodgers opting to use a partnership of Simunovic and Boyata with Jack Hendry as the back-up.
