Ex-Celtic Striker Joins Iranian League Leaders

It can’t be that surprising anymore that it’s another year and another club for Anthony Stokes. To call the striker a football journeyman at this point would be an understatement.

Stokes has decided to go BACK to the Iranian league in a six-month deal after previously having a spell in the league just over a year ago.

The former Celtic ace has joined Persepolis who sit top of the Iranian league.

“I am happy to be able to play in Persepolis,” Stokes said, as translated from the club’s offical website. “I look forward to coming to Tehran and seeing the CEO, the coach, my teammates and the fans.

“I have a great passion to join Persepolis and hope to help the team. I thank everyone at the club for providing me with the opportunity to be in Persepolis. I am excited.”

According to Al Bawaba News, it’s a six-month contract.

Stokes has not found a proper home since leaving Celtic.

At 31, the player is certainly talented but has had a career that’s gone wayward for reasons on the man himself would know.

I’m sure he’s being paid a handsome wage to pay for the club and we wish him all the best.

His best spell at Celtic came when he linked up with Gary Hooper who is currently playing his football in New Zealand.
