Ex-Celtic Midfielder Ismaila Soro Ends Falkirk Talk

Ismaila Soro will not be making a return to the Scottish Premiership after the former Celtic midfielder completed a move to Al Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

The Ivorian had been training with Falkirk over the summer, sparking talk of a potential deal with the newly promoted side. However, he was absent on Friday night when Falkirk faced Celtic at Parkhead in the Premier Sports Cup.

His appearance in Falkirk training raised eyebrows, particularly among Celtic supporters who remembered his burst onto the scene during the COVID season. That period saw Soro hailed briefly as a bright spot in what was otherwise a dismal campaign for Neil Lennon’s side. Many felt fans were simply grasping for positives at the time, but the midfielder did show energy and drive during his short run in the team.

Any possibility of a Scottish return has now been put to bed, with the 27-year-old heading to the Saudi Pro League. Soro has signed with Al Riyadh, where he’ll link up with former Celtic youth goalkeeper Vincent Angelini.

Soro left Celtic permanently in 2023, after a loan spell in Portugal. He signed for Beitar Jerusalem, and after two years at the club, making 55 appearances and scoring three times, he left after his contract expired.
