Former Celtic striker and BT Sports pundit Chris Sutton, has claimed that Hoops striker Odsonne Edouard ‘owes’ fans a performance in tomorrow Glasgow derby fixture.
Writing in his weekly column for the Daily Record, Sutton believes that the Frenchman has been ‘nowhere near it’ this season, in comparison to previous campaigns and tomorrow’s Scottish Cup tie, could be the day that he pays back with a big performance against Rangers.
“Edouard owes the Celtic supporters tomorrow. Fair enough, he was brilliant for the two previous seasons – but he’s been nowhere near it in this one.
“Everyone’s seen it. Whether his head was turned for a spell or whatever, he’s been off the pace for long periods and it’s cost Celtic dearly.
“If he feels like it, he can terrorise the Rangers backline. You’ll know inside 10 minutes if he fancies it.”
It is fair to say that not many players have had a successful campaign in what has been an extremely disappointing season.
Tomorrow’s cup tie won’t make up for the failures of missing out on 10 in a row but by winning that and then going on to lift the Scottish Cup, it would go some way to salvaging something out of it.
We know how good Edouard can be and we have seen it in glimpses this season, with the 23-year old being the top scorer in the league.
He also has previous of brilliant performances against our Glasgow Derby rivals. So, fingers crossed we see another one of those in tomorrow’s fourth-round Scottish Cup fixture.
