EPL Exit Could Reignite Celtic Interest

Josh Brownhill has officially confirmed his departure from Burnley, and the former Celtic-linked midfielder could now re-emerge as a summer option for Brendan Rodgers.

The 29-year-old is a free agent after five and a half years at Turf Moor, where he most recently captained the side and helped guide them back to the Premier League. Brownhill scored 18 goals last season under Scott Parker as Burnley finished second in the Championship – a standout campaign that underlined his quality in the final third.

Celtic were previously linked with a pre-contract move for the Englishman, though nothing materialised during the January window. However, Brendan Rodgers was understood to be monitoring Brownhill’s situation closely towards the end of last season, and with the player now available on a free, that interest could be revived.

Rodgers has already strengthened his midfield with the addition of Nygren, who has looked sharp in pre-season alongside Reo Hatate. Callum McGregor remains the heartbeat of the midfield, while Arne Engels adds further depth. Still, a move for Brownhill would offer something different – experience, leadership, and a genuine goal threat from midfield.

In a farewell message posted on Instagram, Brownhill released a statement.

His availability could tempt Celtic into action – particularly if Rodgers sees room for another established presence in the middle of the park. With European football on the horizon and injuries always a factor across a long campaign, Brownhill might just fit the profile.
