Embarrassing Moment Rangers Fan Makes Horrible Celtic Joke on National Radio

During an episode of Clyde 1’s 5K Minute game on the “Bowie at Breakfast” show, a bit of an unusual moment unfolded.

The completion sees someone take on 10 questions in 60 seconds. If they get them all correct, they win 5k, if they don’t, they get £5 for every correct answer. Enter Scott, Wednesday’s contestant, after winning £30, he suggested donating his prize to the station’s charity, Cash for Kids, which most people do, however, it came with an abhorrent caveat: the beneficiaries should not be Celtic fans. This remark, whether meant humorously or not, seemed out of place to the host.

Reacting live, George Bowie expressed his discomfort, saying, “Oh wow, oh dear. We’ve got love for all fans of all clubs, everywhere.” Co-host Cassi Gillespie chimed in, “And I think when it comes to the kids, that does not matter.” Bowie agreed, emphasising, “Yes, it does not matter with the children at all.” Scott’s response to this was partly lost in transmission, not entirely heard by the audience.

The episode stirred conversations on social media, with Bowie and Gillespie addressing the caller’s comment. To one fan’s inquiry, Bowie retorted, “He was a bit of a walloper mate. Who cares about football when you’re trying to help kids.” Gillespie’s reaction was more succinct, labeling the caller with a Scottish term “One word…tadger.”

While the comment may have been intended as light-hearted, it inadvertently sheds light on the mentality of the person saying it. In the west of Scotland where rivalries can be bitter, let’s remember our humanity. Only the dregs of any support would find this in good taste.
