Drinking Wine, No Cooking: Paulo Bernardo’s Christmas Day

Celtic midfielder Paulo Bernardo didn’t plan to get involved in any cooking on Christmas Day and rather enjoyed a nice glass of wine to celebrate the occasion.

The Portugal under-21 captain was in training with his teammates in the morning before spending time with his family later in the day.

The Hoops, of course, face Motherwell later this afternoon, so there was no time to rest on Christmas for the players.

They had to make their preparations for today’s match, in which they aim to bounce back from Sunday’s disappointing goalless draw with Dundee United. A step up in performance is needed if Brendan Rodgers’ men want to secure three points against Motherwell.

Bernardo spoke to the media ahead of the match and revealed his Christmas Day plans: “I have family members coming for Christmas,” he said (The Celtic Way).

“My mum and dad and sister (Paulo, Annabella and Anna). I will spend time with them then. They are coming to one game, I think. It’s nice, I have my girlfriend here during the year too.

“For me, a Scottish Christmas is just the same as a Portuguese one; I will spend time with my family and have a nice dinner. Do I cook? Nah! Maybe a glass of wine, I’m not a fan but maybe just one.”

Bernardo didn’t start at the weekend against United, and it remains to be seen who will come into Celtic’s midfield for this afternoon’s match-up.

Captain Callum McGregor will undoubtedly start, but one wouldn’t be surprised to see any combination of Bernardo, Luke McCowan, Reo Hatate, and Arne Engels get the nod.

Kick-off today is at 3pm as the Bhoys look to give the Parkhead faithful a late Christmas present.

Three points are essential before St. Johnstone make the trip down to Glasgow on Sunday.
