Done Deal – Celtic Defender Makes Surprise MLS Move

This deal has come out the blue but today FC Cincinnati have confirmed they have taken Celtic defender Andrew Gutman on loan for their inaugural MLS season.

Andrew had been playing college football for a number of years before he signed with Celtic in January. He was then immediately loaned out to Charlotte Independence to get game time for the rest of the season.

Gutman was then back with the Celtic squad for pre-season and took part in the trip to Switzerland and Austria. He has since returned to America with people assuming he was going to continue with Charlotte but instead he’ll be making the step up to the MLS.

Gutman is yet to be capped for his country although he was part of a US squad which he was then cut from earlier in the summer.

While Celtic will not confirm this, we believe Gutman will need International caps for his country before being able to get a working visa to play in the UK. With both his loan moves happening in the US, it’s hard not to come to this conclusion.
