“Didn’t Look Much Wrong” – Falkirk Boss Says Celtic Don’t Need New Signings

Celtic fans have been growing restless with the club’s lack of transfer activity in key positions this summer, particularly out wide.

Despite seven new arrivals, Brendan Rodgers’ squad remains light on the wings, leaving many calling for more signings before the Champions League play-off against Kairat Almaty, which is just days away.

But Falkirk boss John McGlynn insists Celtic don’t need to worry. The Bairns manager, who worked at Parkhead during Rodgers’ first spell in charge, was full of praise for the Scottish champions after watching his side fall to a 4-1 defeat in Friday night’s Premier Sports Cup clash.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, McGlynn said: “I thought Celtic were very very good and yeah, we’ll need to learn from it, which I’m sure we will. But you know, you’re spending like millions of pounds building a team like that and I know a bit of Celtic fans are still wanting more signings but didn’t look much wrong with that team tonight to me.”

Rodgers rotated his squad heavily, making six changes from the weekend win at Aberdeen, yet Celtic still looked sharp and dominant. Goals from Daizen Maeda, Alistair Johnston, Dane Murray and Yang Hyun-jun forcing an own goal killed the contest, with Falkirk only managing a late consolation through Keelan Adams.

McGlynn’s comments will strike a chord with some supporters who have been impressed by Celtic’s strong start to the season. Celtic do have a strong starting team, there’s not really any arguing that. However, Rodgers himself has been clear that he still wants reinforcements before the window shuts, meaning the debate over transfers is far from settled.
