Dermot Desmond Makes Rare Celtic Appearance

Celtic majority shareholder Dermot Desmond was in attendance at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night, watching as the Hoops fell agonisingly short against Bayern Munich in their Champions League knockout play-off.

Desmond, who rarely makes public appearances at Celtic matches, was spotted sitting alongside CEO Michael Nicholson in the stands. The Irish billionaire does not usually attend the club’s Annual General Meetings, delegating that responsibility to his son, Ross Desmond.

While Desmond prefers to operate behind the scenes, his presence at such a high-profile European tie will undoubtedly spark discussion among fans, particularly in the wake of the club’s frustrating January transfer window and the ongoing debate over squad investment.

It’s a big summer coming up. Rodgers got everything spot on in Munich, and with some extra investment, the bench could’ve had another player or two who could’ve come on and changed the match.

That said, the players who started the match can fly come with their heads held high, going toe to toe with Europe’s elite, and the main complaint from fans being that Celtic weren’t even further ahead.

Celtic are still on course for another treble, with the league cup in the bag, a 13-point lead in the cup and the Scottish Cup still to play for.
