Defender’s Status Four Months After Bizarre Celtic Transfer Twist

January transfer target, Ben Davies is reportedly set to stay with English Premier League side Liverpool beyond this summer.

Davies looked to be heading up north to Celtic in the winter on a pre-contract deal before Liverpool stepped in at the last minute and completed the transfer for the former Preston ma.

Since heading to Jurgen Klopp’s side though, the 25-year old has yet to feature for them. So, this meant some fans began to start suggesting whether we could make a move to secure his services once again.

However, speaking on the Liverpool podcast The Red Agenda, journalist James Pearce claims that Davies remains in the German coaches plans going into next season.

“I’m only expecting Liverpool to buy one centre-half this summer and as things stand at the moment I think that’s likely to be Konate from Leipzig.

“The fascinating thing will be what Klopp does on top of that because I think with the manner of having three centre-backs all coming back from serious injuries you’re gonna have to be more stocked in that department than you would usually be going into a normal season.

“I spoke to people close to Ben Davies and he’s been told that he won’t be going anywhere, that Liverpool still see him as part of the setup next season.”

Defence is most certainly a position that Celtic will be looking to improve going into next season. Not only because of poor performances this season but also losing arguably one of our better defenders, Kristoffer Ajer in the summer.

Davies would be an easy link for some to make with our previous interest in the defender but now it appears to be put to bed, rightly so.
