Former Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis is on the move again, with a deal agreed for him to join Thessaloniki-based Aris, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The move would see the Greek international reunite with ex-Hoops teammate Greg Taylor, who is currently with the club. JohnJoe Kenny is also on Aris’ books, having previously spent six months on loan at Celtic.
Giakoumakis only joined Liga MX side Cruz Azul in January 2024, but his time in Mexico appears set to end after just a few months. The 30-year-old had previously enjoyed a successful spell in MLS with Atlanta United following his Parkhead departure in early 2023.
The Greek forward remains fondly remembered by Celtic fans for his impact during his time in Glasgow. Signed by Ange Postecoglou in 2021, Giakoumakis scored 26 goals in 57 appearances despite often playing second fiddle to Kyogo Furuhashi, who was the club’s first-choice striker.

While his career has taken him on a whirlwind tour since leaving Celtic, a return to Greek football could offer Giakoumakis a more settled platform – and Aris will be hoping he can replicate the prolific form he showed both in Scotland and during his Eredivisie golden boot-winning season with VVV-Venlo.
He has never shut the door on Celtic, though. Speaking a few months ago, the striker said,
“You want to set the fire? I would love to play for Celtic again. I don’t know if that’s a utopia or if it could happen again – but who wouldn’t?
“Even if you don’t know what it feels like to be there, when you’ve already been there, you know exactly what it means.

“So if someone played for Celtic and he was successful and you ask him a couple of years after, ‘Would you play again for Celtic?’ and he tells you no, he’s a stupid guy. He’s so dumb.
“So, yeah, I would love, love, love to wear this jersey again. I don’t know if this circle is done for me, but, yeah, that’s my truth.”
