Deadline Day: Celtic Morning Update as Duo Due in Glasgow

As the summer transfer window enters its final hours, Celtic fans are on the edge of their seats, waiting to see if the club will finally pull off some major signings. It’s been a sluggish window for the Hoops, with a few early moves that have since tapered off—until now.

After Brendan Rodgers dusted off his contacts book to bring in veteran goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, there was a lack of activity. Sinisalo was bagged as back up to Kasper. The signing of Paulo Bernardo on a permanent deal from Benfica, following lengthy negotiations, seemed like a turning point. Bernardo’s arrival was followed by the signing of Adam Idah from Norwich City in what has now become Celtic’s most expensive transfer after add-ons are included.

However, after the Idah deal, the transfer market seemed to settle into a lull, with Celtic focusing on their on-pitch performances. But with the clock ticking down, things have taken a sharp turn.

Earlier this week, Celtic added depth to their left-back position by securing Alex Valle on loan from Barcelona, a move that hinted at more to come. Now, it appears the club is ready to shatter their transfer record yet again, with Arne Engels poised to join from FC Augsburg for a staggering £11 million, including a sell-on clause for the German club. Engels, a highly-rated midfielder, could be a game-changer for the Bhoys as they aim to dominate both domestically and compete in Europe.

In addition to Engels, Austin Trusty is set to arrive in Glasgow to finalise his £6 million move from Sheffield United. Trusty, an American centre-back, is expected to bolster Celtic’s defence, and challenge Liam Scales.

With these significant deals in the pipeline, the club is still keeping an eye on further reinforcements, particularly in the winger and midfield departments. But as of this morning, nothing concrete has emerged.

The deadline is fast approaching, and Celtic fans will be hoping for some last-minute magic as the window slams shut at 11pm. Stay tuned for what promises to be a frantic final day of transfer action at Celtic Park and we’ll be covering it all at CeltsAreHere.com.
