Davie Provan Makes Neil Lennon Claim After Shut Down

Davie Provan has had his say on the latest crisis to hit Scottish football. We’ve not seen such disruption since a club from Ibrox hit the wall after large scale cheating.

With eight games to go, Celtic are thirteen points clear and closing in on their ninth consecutive title. However, whether those eight games will ever see the light of day is still to be determined.

With the covid-19 pandemic in its infancy in the UK, there’s no guarantee football starts back any time soon. The threat of players carrying the virus and spreading it as they play out the fixture list will not be risked.

This leaves less than ideal options on the table given the uncertainty.

Provan is correct when he states Neil Lennon would want the season to restart and for his side to win all remaining games. But if that’s taken out the clubs hands, what can they do?

“If the game is still mothballed by then it’ll be impossible for British leagues to complete fixtures before next season’s schedule kicks in.” Provan wrote in his SunSport column.

“That possibility would put Doncaster in big bother.

“I doubt he’d get away with “guillotining” the Premiership as things stand.

“If Celtic were awarded the title with eight games left, where does that leave the old sporting integrity argument?

“Besides, given the choice, I’ll bet Neil Lennon would want to play every game. He wouldn’t want an ounce of controversy around a ninth consecutive title. Putting an asterisk beside Celts’ achievement would be unfair on a team who’ve been the Premiership’s best by a distance.
