Celtic’s impressive lead in the Scottish Premiership is not just a tale of numbers; it’s a story of talent and strategy.
As they sit eight points clear at the top, having played one game more than Rangers, the Bhoys’ depth in quality is evident. Football pundit Davie Provan has pinpointed two players he believes shines a light on the big difference between Celtic and their Glasgow rivals: Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda.
Provan expressed his admiration for Abada, stating to Football Scotland , “I’m not sure of Liel Abada’s recovery timetable. But he is really, really good. I like him so much. He is another who is so young and has lots of time on his side. But he still does it in big games. He has tormented Rangers a few times.” This endorsement underlines Abada’s crucial role, especially in high-stakes matches.

Daizen Maeda’s impact hasn’t gone unnoticed either. Provan described him as a ‘real asset on the wings,’ acknowledging his dynamic play: “He can be explosive on the ball at any given moment and must be a headache for full-backs. It’s unfortunate he is injured just now. He will be a sore miss for the team.” Provan is confident in Maeda’s abilities, especially against the Rangers, noting, “He scores and he creates.”
Abada has been unfortunate with injuries this season while Maeda has recently joined him on the long term physio list. Both men still have major contributions to make before all is said and done this season.
Celtic’s current lead is a testament to the team’s overall quality, and with these players expected back by the end of the year, it could give the bhoys a boost. The Hoops prepare to welcome the Rangers on December 30th which promises to be a very intriguing affair.
If Celtic can continue their SPFL form, you would t bet against them grabbing three on a row, but that’s a long way off just yet.
There are other players Provan didn’t mention. Like the emergence of Palma in the past month, and Yang beginning to show signs of what he can really do.
