David Tanner has a Celtic Meltdown

David Tanner rightly faced backlash after his comments on Twitter following the latest Glasgow Derby, where Celtic secured a 2-1 victory over Rangers, effectively sealing their fate at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Tanner’s tweet expressed his view that Rangers’ performance earlier in the season against lower-ranked teams contributed significantly to their inability to clinch the title.

Tanner tweeted: “Congratulations Brendan Rodgers for a win that puts the title to bed.  With their best players back, Celtic got the job done at the business end. Rangers should have had the league won before today’s game. They lost themselves the title by flopping v. bottom 6 sides & Dundee.”

His remarks sparked controversy, especially considering Celtic’s dominant performance against Rangers throughout the season, having won three out of four league meetings and drawing once.

Tanner’s focus on Rangers’ failures rather than Celtic’s successes undermines the achievements of Brendan Rodgers’ squad, who demonstrated resilience to go on and win the league.

This season, Celtic’s wins over Rangers have indeed been pivotal. Their ability to secure wins at both home and away fixtures against Rangers has been a testament to their tactical prowess and depth of the overall squad, factors that Tanner’s comments seemingly glossed over.

As the season draws to a close, Celtic stands at the top of the table, six points clear with only two games left, illustrating not just their superiority in head-to-head encounters but also their consistent performance across the league.
