David Gray Explains Why He’s Taking Heart From Kasper Schmeichel’s Display vs Hibs

Hibernian boss David Gray thinks Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel’s performance on Saturday shows just how competitive his team were at Parkhead.

The Hibees came to Glasgow’s east end and weren’t afraid to have a go at the Bhoys, creating multiple opportunities from which they could, and should’ve, scored at least a goal or two.

Schmeichel, though, was more than ready for the challenge, pulling off several key saves to keep a clean sheet and ensure his side’s victory was comfortable.

After the match, Hibs gaffer Gray outlined why he is taking heart from the Celtic stopper’s display: “I can’t remember a Hibs team coming here and creating so many clear-cut chances,” he said (Glasgow Times).

“So much so that their goalkeeper wins Man of the Match. I think that’s a reflection on how well the players have done for periods in the game.”

Celtic’s great Dane between the sticks has now kept 12 out of a possible 15 clean sheets in the Scottish Premiership so far this season.

The 38-year-old plays like he’s a decade younger, and has been an upgrade on his good friend Joe Hart between the sticks for the Bhoys.

Schmeichel has been one of the shrewdest Hoops investments in recent seasons, and one assumes it to be a matter of when, not if, regarding his contractual situation.

Indeed, manager Brendan Rodgers outlined yesterday how the club has the right to exercise the one-year extension in the goalkeeper’s deal at any time. Given Schmeichel’s standout performances in green and white so far, they’ll be desperate to tie him down to another 12 months at Parkhead.
