Former Celtic manager John Barnes has backed Neil Lennon to keep his job no matter what the result is, in Sunday’s Scottish Cup final against Hearts.
As reported by Glasgow Times, Barnes admitted that losing the cup would be a big disappointment for Lennon but in the end, he still believes the Northern Irishman will keep his job no matter what and are still capable of going on a run of wins.
“It would be disappointing if they don’t win the final, but I don’t think [Neil Lennon] will necessarily lose his job. Celtic are good enough to go on a run and win the majority of games. Unfortunately for them, Rangers look unstoppable at the moment. But I don’t think that just losing the Cup Final will mean that he’s not going to be in a job.
“It really depends on this Christmas period when they’re going to be playing quite a few games. Things can change very quickly if they win four in a row. What’s important is for them to decide not by looking game to game, but to give it a longer period of time before they make a decision.”
This season so far hasn’t been the best and it would be fair to say its also been a disappointment. Especially considering what we probably expected going into ‘the 10’ season.
The Scottish Cup final is a huge chance for us to create history once again, winning the fourth treble in a row. Losing that would be hugely disappointing.
Neil Lennon has faced a lot of criticism for the performances and losing the Scottish Cup final wouldn’t do anything to help that. Although, it is probably still unlikely he would lose his job in the event of this, with the board recently saying they will review his position once again in January.
Fingers crossed this isn’t the case anyway and we can come away with another historic victory for the club at Hampden.
