CRAIG GORDON has spoken for the first time about an injury he’d been carrying for 18 months prior to being dropped by Brendan Rodgers at the end of 2018.
The goalkeeper was Rodgers number one for the first two full seasons after he tried to replace the Scotsman with a lacklustre Dorus de Vries.
The goalkeeper has lifted the lid on his end of season injury which kept him from even taking a place on the bench for the final games of the season.
Gordon has had to battle back from career-ending injuries already in his career and carrying a knock while you try to hold onto your position in the side can be physically and mentally draining.
With Bain coming in as Celtic’s number one for 2019, the 36-year-old has been able to take a breath and recover in full. Now he’s ready to reclaim his gloves from pal Bain and got his first taste of action this year against Kalju.
“Unfortunately for me I got the injury that ended up keeping me out for quite a long time.” He told SunSport.
“The injury had been coming, it was something I’d been dealing with. I was coping with it for the best part of 18 months. I was just managing it and getting through the games.
“But then when I was out the team the rest of the boys seemed to train more in preparation for getting back into the team, and that’s when it was too much for me.
“There are always frustrations being out the team. I’ve definitely felt that from time to time.”
Neil Lennon still has Bain as number one at this moment but you just never know.
