Celtic have been linked with an outside the box striker move this summer.
We’re wary of this kind of transfer rumour, when a player from outside Europe is looking to get attention, there’s always a Celtic link with them at some point that gets their name in the media limelight.
Football Insider are crediting Celtic with an interest in out of contract River Plate striker, Santos Borre.
The 25-year-old has played in Europe before, in Spain with both Villareal and Atletico Madrid.
The Columbian moved to Argentina in 2017 and has spent four years with River Plate. Borre has let his contract run down and is now looking for a big move.
TransferMarkt value the striker at over £15m, a fee Celtic could not afford if he wasn’t out of contract. It would present an opportunity to bring in a player we couldn’t otherwise afford.
Right now, the strength of the link between Celtic and the striker is flimsy. Football Insider claims a ‘Celtic source’ is telling them the club are interested but this ‘Celtic source’ has clearly led the transfer website down the garden path before if you’re familiar with the site.
The only thing I could add to any kind of move for a player outside Europe is our manager has been operating outside of our usual transfer scene for his whole career so he will have a grasp of a lot of players we’ve not seen over here. However, Ange has been based in Japan for the last few years and I have no idea how clued up the new boss is when it comes to the Argentinian scene.
