Ivory Coast manager Ibrahim Kamara has claimed Vakoun Bayo has been called up to the Ivory Coast squad even though Neil Lennon told Celtic fans on Wednesday evening the player faces potential knee surgery.
The striker was nowhere to be seen in the squad against St Mitten after picking up an injury in training and after the game, Lennon made it clear the striker could face six weeks or more out on the sidelines.
However, RecordSport have quoted the Ivory Coast boss as saying he’s negotiated the release of their top stars for international duty.
“We have negotiated with a host of top European clubs to get permission to pick our best players for this important tournament.
“They include Vakoun Bayo of Celtic, Toulose’s Ibriham Sangare, Chelsea keeper Nicolas Tie and Idrissa Doumbia of Sporting Lisbon.
“So we are grateful for the help received by these clubs to use their players.”
Celtic have only one fit striker at the moment with Leigh Griffiths still out with his own injury. Edouard is leading the line and is Celtic’s only senior option.
It will be interesting to see how this pans out but Celtic will surely make it clear the player is in no state to play any more games until after he’s had the knee op.
