Conflicting Reports – Neil Lennon Rubbishes £7m Transfer Claim

Reports still claim Celtic will try for Brentford defender Rico Henry despite Neil Lennon rubbishing the claim this week.

The Scotsman wrote Neil Lennon claimed Celtic had no interest in the player yet RecordSport are suggesting the left-back was still an option for the club who are now looking to replace Kieran Tierney.

Figures for Rico have been on the high side, while Celtic have money to spend they should not overpay for players and £7m for a Championship player is not something Celtic are usually in the business of doing.

Both Celtic’s two top signings financially have come from the French League with Odsonne Edouard and Christopher Jullien. It’s very hard to find value in English football, even in the Championship. Inflated prices are the norm and gone are the days when Celtic can pluck a Gary Hooper out of the league for a couple of million after scoring a barrel load of goals.

There’s no doubt Kieran Tierney must be replaced. Boli Bolingoli had a rough night against Cluj but he should recover. However, the player is not very defensive minded and Neil Lennon should be very aware they need someone in that position who can defend when need be.
