Conflicting Reports – Free Agent Offered ‘Bumper Deal’

REKEEM HARPER has been a long time target of Neil Lennon, even before he became the permanent manager of Celtic. It’s well documented the player was a VIP guest of the club on Trophy day back in May.

Harper is out of contract with West Brom and the player was assessing his options like many players like to do nowadays when he came to speak to Celtic. Since the player visited Celtic Park, nothing else has been said about the potential transfer really, until now.

There are two very conflicting reports within 24 hours of one another. Football League report the player has been back with West Brom on Monday ahead of the new season without having a contract in place. New Boss Slaven Bilic could have persuaded the 19-year-old to stay put.

Football League World Report:

West Bromwich Albion are still expecting to secure the future of Rekeem Harper, but today the young midfielder has become a free agent, which will have undoubtedly led to some worry.

Harper was at West Brom’s training ground today and it is looking increasingly likely that he will agree a new four year deal with the Championship club.

On the other side of the coin, you have Football Insider peddling the notion that Celtic are still very much in the hunt for the midfielder and will offer Rekeem a ‘bumper deal’ to join the Scottish champions.

Football Insider reports:

Celtic are set to offer West Brom midfielder Rekeem Harper a bumper contract to persuade him to join this summer, Football Insider understands.

The 19-year-old is the subject of strong interest from clubs in England as his contract expired over the weekend and he is available for a bargain price.

Most Celtic fans want to see a right back coming in before anything else but if this deal could be done, there’s not many who would turn their nose up at Rekeem coming to the club. Especially when Celtic have missed out on David Turnbull this window due to a failed medical.

If he has still been in and around the training ground at West Brom it could signify he’s ready to do a deal to remain at the club. The disappointment of not making the Premier League last term could be the driving force.
