Celtic have confirmed that striker Johnny Kenny has signed a new four-year contract, extending his stay at the club beyond next summer.

The Irish forward’s previous deal was due to expire in 2026, but Brendan Rodgers has shown faith in the 22-year-old, handing him plenty of minutes during pre-season in which he bagged a goal against Newcastle United.
While there is an expectation that Kenny could head out on loan to gain further first-team experience, no decision has yet been confirmed.
Brendan Rodgers is convinced that the striker has a big future at Celtic, and that was signalled again on Sunday. With new signing Shin Yamada on the bench, Kenny was brought on ahead of the Japanese forward to replace Adam Idah.

Speaking to Celtic TV after putting pen to paper, Kenny said: “I’m delighted. All I wanted to do was commit my future to this club and I’m delighted it’s done now. I feel really proud. I spoke to the manager at the start of the summer and it was a case of tying it all together. I like to think that I can score goals and the manager believes in me too, so that helps when I’m in and around the box, knowing that the manager backs me.
“I want to achieve everything possible at this club. I want to play Champions League football, win every trophy available and score goals. That’s my aim. It’s a proud moment and I have to thank the club for giving me this opportunity. I just want to repay them on the pitch over the next few years.”
Rodgers also welcomed the deal, adding: “I am really pleased that we have agreed this new contract with Johnny. He is a young player who I believe can have a big future with Celtic. He loves the club and is really hungry and focused on doing well for us, developing further and making an important contribution to the squad, so we look forward to working with him moving forward.”
Kenny will now look to build on his promising pre-season as Celtic enter a crucial early stretch of the campaign.
Confirmation will come in the coming days on his immediate future, whether it’s at Celtic or away from the club on loan. Bolton have been one of the clubs who have been interested in the striker, with Celtic demanding a fee of £1m before pre-season started.
