‘Commander’, ‘ Uncompromising’ – International Press React to Kristoffer Ajer’s Performance Against Spain

KRISTOFFER AJER will be quite happy with his night’s work after the Norwegian helped his side to an impressive 1-1 draw against Spain in their Euro qualifying group.

The Celtic star took his place at the centre of defence for his country and was more than effective at keeping the Spaniards front line at bay.

Saul Niguez made the breakthrough for Spain on the 47th minute – but Norway refused to fold after the goal and got a 94th minute penalty to take a point from the game and send the Spaniard’s home bitterly disappointed.

Norway’s rearguard action was the foundation on which they built that point and Ajer was a big part of it.

Cited by the RecordSport, Nettavisen gave Kris a 7/10.

“Ajer returned to the Norwegian national team on Saturday after having to miss the last commitments through injury.

“The Celtic stopper delivered a good match for Norway and was pretty much in control when he was challenged by the Spanish stars.

“A good game by Ajer.”

Again cited by Record Sport, Dagbladet wrote:

“Strong and uncompromising. Directed the others and has evolved to become a commander of the Norwegian defence.

“But why did he turn his back on Saul Niguez for the goal to make it 1-0?”

The last line of the Dagbladet critique shouldn’t give too much cause for concern but the player has made some poor decisions in the last few months. Individual errors which have overshadowed solid performances. Kris is still young and learning but there’s no doubt he’s going places.
