‘Cold Hearted Reflection’ – Ange Postecoglou Credits St Mirren

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has admitted that his side was “poor in every aspect” as they were beaten by St Mirren on Sunday afternoon.

It was a shock defeat, especially with Celtic’s blistering form in the league. Before the match, Celtic had scored seventeen goals in six games, only conceding one goal. Sunday’s showing was quite the opposite, with Celtic struggling to form an attack while the opposition scored from both their shots on target.

It will go down as one of those days for Celtic, but it’ll leave a bad taste in the mouth of Celtic fans, who have to go into the international break with a poor result and performance on their mind.

Giving his verdict on the match, Postecoglou admitted his team weren’t at the races in Paisley, saying; [live on Sky Sports]

“Credit to St Mirren. They work hard, they’re really committed and they got their just rewards. We were poor in every aspect of the game today and that’s disappointing. There could be a thousand reasons for it, but the more you look at the wash-up is that we didn’t perform to levels we have been and that cold-hearted reflection will come.

“We’ve had a decent run of results over the last year and part of football is to see how you overcome setbacks – today was one. I think in just about every area, we weren’t up to the levels we are usually at. We didn’t show the right tempo and intensity in the game to work through teams. Sometimes, after what we have achieved over the last sort of 15 months, there is always a timely reminder not to get too far ahead of yourself.

“There wasn’t a standout performer today and we weren’t at the levels we need to be to be the team that we want to be.”

The players now jet off to represent their countries, while some will remain in Glasgow, with Postrecoglou likely to get some hard work into the players’ legs.

Celtic’s next match will be in October, with Motherwell travelling to Parkhead, before the hoops head to Germany to continue their Champions League campaign.
