Celtic have reportedly had a bid for Romanian striker Louis Munteanu knocked back by CFR Cluj, as the Transylvanian side dig their heels in over their valuation of the prolific forward.

Cluj are believed to be holding out for a fee closer to £15.5million, almost double what the Scottish champions put on the table.
Club owner Nelutu Varga was crystal clear about the club’s position, offering no room for negotiation. Speaking to Romanian outlet Sport Pesurse, he said: “I have clearly said that Louis Munteanu will only leave if someone pays 18 million euros. I am not discussing anything else.”
The Romanian international is coming off the back of a standout season, having scored 25 goals in all competitions. That form has made him one of the most sought-after young strikers in Europe, and Cluj are keen to cash in only if their demands are met in full.
Manager Dan Petrescu made it clear that losing Munteanu would be a major blow to his side’s ambitions for the new season. He said: “Louis Munteanu will be almost irreplaceable. If we get a player who scores that many goals, it means we won the lottery.”

Celtic reportedly remain in the market for a striker following the departure of Kyogo in January. Brendan Rodgers has spoken openly about the need for more firepower, and the club’s pursuit of Munteanu reflects their willingness to invest.
However, with Cluj standing firm and the price tag well above what Celtic typically pay for players, it remains to be seen whether the Glasgow side will return with an improved bid or turn their attention to alternative targets as the transfer window progresses.
