Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has publicly urged Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka to consider a move to Celtic as the Scottish champions look for a successor to the retired Joe Hart.

The Newcastle shot-stopper has been linked to Celtic over the past week or so. He’s said that while there is no offer on the table just now, he would consider a move to Celtic.
Writing in his column for the Daily Record, Sutton highlighted the opportunity at Celtic Park, suggesting it could mirror the successful stint Joe Hart had after joining Celtic later in his career.
Dubravka, who filled in admirably for Newcastle last season during Nick Pope’s absence, is at a crossroads in his career. At 35, he still has the potential for a good move, and Sutton believes Celtic offers an appealing option.
Sutton wrote: “At 35-years-old he probably has one more big move in him. He’s played a lot of games for Newcastle in the last year but isn’t going to be first choice.
“There’s every chance he saw what Hart achieved at Celtic and fancies a bit of that himself. Does he sit tight and ride out his final year at Newcastle as a back up, or perhaps drop down the division in England to get a regular game?
“Or does he come to Celtic, play every week and be in with the chance of winning silverware, while playing in the Champions League? I know what I would be doing.”
Signing a 35-year-old would be considered a short-term fix for Celtic, and wouldn’t please many supporters. Many are wanting Celtic to push the board out and get a quality, younger ‘keeper that can be number 1 for years to come.
